Jordan Poole commemorative quarter- TAILS

After successfully completing the concept for the “heads” side of the Jordan Poole Commemorative Quarter concept, I felt I couldn’t leave it as one. I was battling severe back pain since early the previous year (2022), so this wasn’t an easy season for me personally. When I began the artwork, a lot like my own life, the Warriors were trudging their way through a tumultuous regular season, in attempts to defend their title. By the time I was finished, they were beginning their first round series vs the Kings and the dynasty felt like it could be hanging in the balance. After some Curry heroics, I was looking at a finished work that I was extremely proud of. But after a disappointing exit versus the Lakers, I was also looking at the likelihood that Poole’s days as a Warriors could be over. Which they were a short few weeks later. There’s two ways to approach making sports art if it’s not a direct commission. Worry about the current circumstances of the player’s career and success of the team or think of it as a time piece, an archive in history of that period of time. As I was making intricate “wearable art” shirts from the originals, I would try to weigh the two, and ultimately there’s risk and reward in both. However without that purpose, the creative format opens up quite a bit. Who knows what the future holds? None the less, I may have never captured Jordan’s championship contribution creatively if I didn’t seize this opportunity when I did. I’m thrilled to have this set completed. Look for all my YaniMade originals to be for sale in the near future.
